University of Basra Organizes a Scientific Visit to the Basra Environment Directorate and Department

The Rehabilitation, Employment, and Follow-up Unit at the College of Veterinary Medicine organized a scientific visit to the Basra Environment Directorate and the Southern Region Environmental Protection and Improvement Department as part of a series of scientific and awareness-raising activities for fifth-year students.

The visit included a speech by Dr. Walid Al-Moussawi, Director of the Environment Directorate, on the importance of paying attention to the environmental aspect, the tasks undertaken by the directorate, and the challenges facing their work. He also provided important information on the role of companies and factories in water and air pollution in the governorate, as well as the importance of afforestation, which contributes significantly to reducing air pollution. The head of the Climate Change Division explained the reasons for the extinction of some wild animals due to overhunting, environmental pollution, and climate change in the governorate. The visit also included a visit to the laboratories, introducing them to their work, particularly in examining the level of heavy metal pollution and other pathogens in water.

The visit aimed to help raise students' awareness of the importance of veterinary medicine in the environmental field, motivate them to contribute to environmental protection throughout their careers, and learn about the role of the Environment Department and understand how environmental institutions work to monitor pollution and protect the environment
